“Buck stops with me,” says chief executive.
Margate chief executive Cliff Egan has resigned from the club admitting that ‘someone had to stand up and be counted’.
Gate have had a difficult year off the pitch with the loss of the main club sponsor leaving a sizeable gap in their budget, while manager Chris Kinnear departed for Dover Athletic.
Egan offered his resignation on Monday.
“On my watch we have lost our Manager and his Assistant and been unable to replace our main sponsor this year,” he told the club’s official website.
“If our Football Managers do not get results on the field they know what to expect in football. The same must apply off it. Someone has to stand up and be counted for what has happened off the pitch and the buck stops with me.”
The club has yet to accept his resignation, and is expected to issue a further statement in due course.
